Centers of Influence

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

Are you an advisor working on your own during these challenging times? Whether you are solo or work in a firm of advisors, financial advisors need relationships more than ever before! I found out quickly as a young advisor that I needed to make connections with Centers of Influence who could connect me with Ideal Clients and other influencers. In these times of roboadvisors and online zoom meetings relationships matter. Advisors need to create these relationships and be open to being a center of influence for others. Also, financial advisers need to know that the power of their influence is increased with those who are on their team. Create centers of influence and be willing to act as one. This week I am introducing centers of influence in my practice who will be guesting on my ABC Challenge next week. These are the good ones in the industry who serve financial planners and help to Achieve work/life balance. If you haven't signed up join us to Learn How to Have it All, Without Doing it all in the ABC Challenge! https://lnkd.in/ezPuYgE

As I was working really hard towards this, you know, building a book, my company said, hey, you go out and you get referrals from family and friends and so I did that and I kind of exhausted that. And quite honestly, that I didn't really have a ton of people to contact in my direct line.

So, I started to network and as I networked, one of the biggest pieces of advice I got there was to help me be successful is find centers of influence. You're talking about loan officers, real estate agents, chiropractors, people who are seeing people on a regular basis because they're struggling with some issue and they're finding a solution. Having a good financial advisor, a lot of time, you know, what people end up talking about, business owners, how's your business doing?

It's doing really well, I want to invest in this, I want to do this.

So, it's nice especially people who are like minded to have those powerful connections. So, number one, what I would suggest is you go out and instead of trying to make this some kind of robotic and awkward experience.

So, I would say make it organic, make it natural, but identify people have a target and find ways that you can interact with them. I would usually say go to lunch with them, take them to lunch, just be natural, take them golfing, send them a gift and do things you can do that are natural. But in this time of age, it might just be calling them over the phone. I was sending them a card saying that we'd like to meet with you, but I think that's probably one of the biggest problems that I had getting started was being too mechanical about it. Just let it be natural and organic and begin by taking some action.
